TGIF – Thanks for the Sun!

Ah, the sun shining is such a gift! Even though I am grateful for the moisture we have been receiving, the cloudy days and snow in April do nothing to warm my spirits.
Slowly, as the sun starts to awaken the tulips in our yard, my energy is returning, and my gratitude for the warmth and light spreads into all that I am doing. Even my walking has a lightness in step compared to trodding through the snow.
To celebrate the sun, I am sharing a poem from Mary Oliver, our family’s favorite poet. May the sun and spring warm you back into a place of celebration for life!
How does sunshine make a difference in your day?
Why I Wake Early
by Mary Oliver
Hello, sun in my face,
Hello, you who make the morning
and spread it over the fields
and into the faces of the tulips
and the nodding morning glories,
and into the windows of, even, the
miserable and the crotchety-
best preacher that ever was,
dear star, that just happens
to be where you are in the universe
to keep us from ever-darkness,
to ease us with warm touching,
to hold us in the great hands of light–
good morning, good morning, good morning.
Watch now, how I start the day
in happiness, in kindness.
